Holy Cow Batman!

It been forever! We've had our first and second bout already, both were fantastic events, full of spills chills and thrills for all. we are now in preparation for our next bout against Monroe MI's Floral City Roller Girls.  We voted on an all-star team to play and the girls are stoked to play another team.

It fun to hit each other but I believe it will be ten times more enjoyable to hit another team.  we continue to practice hard we've even worked in some "work-out" programs to improve our physically fitness.

Our first Bout is coming up!

Just got back from another hard derby practice, the girls are getting better and better.  As we learned more as a team you can really see all the pieces of this derby puzzle coming together.  I think the hardest time of practice for me would have to be the very beginning its because your huffing and puffing as your heart race is racing but once you get over that hump things run so smooth. Just gotta push through the pain.

With each drop of sweat that pours out of you, you feel more motivated to push harder be better and work!  Its such a good feeling when that whistle blows because if you given your all, its a feeling of complete accomplishment.  As a coach you get that feeling too when you see your players giving everything they have, it pushes you to try harder for them.  The twisted side of that is when you have a girl, that you know can do better but just isn't throwing everything she has into it.  Its frustrating but in the end you cant make anyone play derby they have to want it for themselves.

Another feeling that is strange is when a girl gets injured and they have to sit out.  It's painful because i know that deep inside them they want to play so bad but their body is not letting them do what they love at the moment.  Its such a sad feeling, and you never know, because with a sport like derby at any moment you could be the next girl down with an injury.

So i guess the point is when your not injured, try your very best, give it everything you have in you because you never know when something can happen to where you cant do what you love...which is playing roller derby <3

The start of something beautiful

I started this blog to record my journey into the crazy world known as Roller Derby! I was apart of starting Sandusky, Ohio first all female roller derby team, I want to record this exciting time in my life because I've never felt stronger or more empowered than i do when i strap on those skates and go out fighting on the flat track.  It so strange to me because roller derby is such a simple idea but it brings so much passion and sisterhood among your fellow teams mates, its a feeling like none other. Not only is roller derby a true sport but you also have the showmanship side which is great because you get a chance to express yourself while kicking ass.

Above all things that rock about roller derby I would have to say the feeling of acceptance is the most valued.  Acceptance among the group of girls I play roller derby with it, because doesn't matter if your short long small big young old you leave everything you have on the track and together as a group form something unstoppable.  Its an amazing feeling, so many different kinds of girls play roller derby but your all there to capture just a taste of the empowerment, strength and sisterhood roller derby brings into your life.

I cannot wait to record all the good, bad and even ugly moments during my journey with my Sandusky roller girls but no matter what happens I'll have remember this amazing time in my life with my roller derby sisters <3
